Parental Partnering Essential for a Christian Education

The Role of Parents in Their Children’s Christian Education

At Logos Academy, we believe that God has designed the home as the ideal environment in which to train children. Further, God intends parents to be the primary agents in training their children. Schools should exist simply to assist parents in fulfilling that responsibility. The problem is that most schools simply occupy too much of the child’s time. By age eighteen most students will have spent most of their waking hours for the last thirteen years away from their homes in school or school-related activities. Yet most people who come to Christ do so by age eighteen—the very years that are best spent at home, where parents can teach their children their values.

God commanded the Israelites,

“These words which I have commanded you today shall be upon your heart. And you shall impress them deeply on your children and shall speak of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise (Deut. 6:6-7).”

In all its courses the Logos Academy seeks to involve parents actively in their child’s education. We do this by teaching less than five days per week and assigning work to be done at home under the parent’s supervision. This parent partnering is not only more efficient, allowing the student much more time at home, but also draws the parent actively into the educational process. The Academy exists to assist, not to replace, parents in fulfilling their responsibility to train their children.

The question rises as to whether teaching less than five days per week is adequate academically. In a word, it is. We provide a college preparatory curriculum. A student who enrolls full time will complete twenty-four of the twenty-six credits required for the Texas Education Agency’s Recommended High School Program. (The only credits that the Academy does not provide are one credit of physical education and one credit of fine arts, which we leave to the parent’s discretion.) We believe in excellence in education.

Logos Academy: Offering Quality & Affordable Christian Education

Logos Academy is a Christian school supporting home-centered, college preparatory education majoring in the Bible and theology. A major drawback to most Christian schools is that they are simply too expensive. We make Christian education affordable and therefore accessible to most Christian families.

By parent partnering we not only involve parents actively in their children’s education, but also keep our costs to a minimum. Our goal is to teach the Bible and theology to as many students as possible. We do this by making education affordable.
